Even low levels of heavy metals exposure can raise your risk of cancer and multiple organ damage
Heavy metals are all around us. You might not see them, but they are widely distributed throughout the environment thanks to their many agricultural, technological, medical, and industrial applications. You might think that if you don’t come into direct contact with these metals, your risk must be minimal, but studies show that even low levels […]

Certain Sudanese medicinal plants can remove heavy metals from water
Toxic heavy metals are growing more common in bodies of water, including those that serve as important sources of drinking water. To remedy this problem, Sudanese researchers investigated a trio of local medicinal plants used as water purifiers. They reported that the extracts of moringa (Moringa oleifera), bulrush (Typha latifolia) and Egyptian lemongrass (Cymbopogon proximus) […]

Some Sudanese medicinal plants show potential in removing heavy metals from water
A Sudanese study investigated the ability of three local and common medicinal plants to naturally remove heavy metals from water. The ethanolic extracts of moringa (Moringa oleifera), bulrush (Typha latifolia) and Egyptian lemongrass (Cymbopogon proximus) were able to absorb cadmium, chromium, lead, and zinc contaminants in water samples. The study was supported by the Omdurman Islamic University. […]

Papaya reduces cadmium-induced brain damage
A study published in the European Journal of Medicinal Plants recently concluded that papayas may be a delicious and natural way to prevent brain damage caused by cadmium toxicity. Cadmium is a known carcinogen and neurotoxin. In point of fact, this specific heavy metal is notorious for intensifying oxidative damage in the nervous system, thereby […]

Toxic heavy metal contamination from cadmium in the soil stresses rice crops and threatens both crop viability and food safety
A study published in the IOSR Journal of Environmental Science, Toxicology and Food Technology has revealed that the current progress of scientific literature regarding the effects of cadmium accumulation in soil, coupled with the development of various procedures to treat it, significantly aids toxin-free rice production. Led by researchers from the South China Agricultural University and Sierra Leone Agricultural Research Institute (SLARI) – […]

Cadmium poisoning signs and symptoms: Are you being poisoned by this heavy metal?
Cadmium is a toxic heavy metal associated with a host of adverse health conditions. The heavy metal is a naturally-occurring compound that is currently used in the production of batteries, electroplate steel and cathode ray tubes, and colored pigments. Cadmium is also added in rods used in nuclear reactors to control atomic fission. Being a heavy metal, […]

Investigating the influence of two probiotics in preventing cadmium toxicity
Iranian scientists constructed a rat model to study the effect of two probiotics plus a prebiotic on cadmium (Cd), a heavy metal that is harmful to humans. They reported that the synbiotic – a synergistic combination of probiotics and prebiotics – protected rats against the toxic effects of cadmium, which includes oxidative stress on the liver […]

Hazardous chemicals from decades-old plastic pollution is still contaminating freshwater lakes in Europe
The spread of plastic pollution and hazardous chemicals into the oceans is a well-known phenomenon that has been extensively studied. However, little is yet known about the impact these toxic chemicals have on bodies of freshwater. Now, the first-ever chemical analysis of one of western Europe’s largest bodies of freshwater revealed the presence of toxic chemicals from […]

Organic fertilizer blend effective at lowering cadmium levels in soil
The presence of cadmium (Cd) in the fertile soil of California is bad news for growers and consumers alike. When large amounts of the heavy metal are absorbed by leafy vegetables, the crop becomes dangerous to humans. Researchers therefore came up with an organic fertilizer that can reduce Cd levels in soils and vegetables, according to an […]

How to interpret heavy metals lab test results from CWC Labs
If you’ve purchased a heavy metals lab test kit from the Health Ranger Store, you’ll receive a report listing the ppb (parts per billion) concentrations for over 20 elements, including lead, zinc, magnesium, cadmium and more. We use ICP-MS instrumentation (“mass spec”) to test heavy metals down to single-digit ppb concentrations. See the full list […]
